Can parasites and Head Lice, cause Hair loss?
It’s an unpleasant topic and most people, like you, don’t like to talk about it, but one of most common causes of hair loss and damage to the hair is infestation by parasites. Parasites are tiny insects that live on the scalp and feed on blood.
Picking up parasites is easy to do; preschool and elementary school-aged children carry them and bring them home. Adults who live with the kids are most susceptible to catching head lice. However, adults can carry them too.
Catching parasites don’t mean you have poor hygiene, they, in fact, love clean skin and hair. Parasites can survive on towels, soft furnishing, clothes, animals (cats and dogs).
Immune reactions can cause hair loss in people, and hair parasites cause itchiness which is sometimes uncontrollable; scratching may happen while you are sleeping.
The positive news is that parasite issues are quite treatable and your hair loss usually responds well to treatment and should grow back normally afterwards.
