Maca – discover the health benefits of maca root powder
Maca the super vitamin for many illnesses including sexual health, infertility and menopause.
You’ve probably heard of maca root, which is currently being touted as the latest ‘superfood’ found in the trendiest health-restaurants, shops and blogs but this special root vegetable has been around for centuries.
The indigenous people of the Andes used maca root (also known as Peruvian ginseng) as a natural remedy for many illnesses and conditions, including sexual health, infertility and menopause.
Stabilises menopauses symptoms
Maca root is known to help balance hormones, especially during menopause. Research also found that it helped support other pesky symptoms such as hot flashes, sleep disruptions, night sweats, and depression. This could be down to its high nutrient density and phytochemical content.
Improves sexual function
Many factors can cause female sexual dysfunction, including age, lifestyle and mental and physical health. And although conventional medication can ‘help’, most of them also come with a lot of nasty side effects. Substituting this with a maximum dosage of 3g maca per day was found to improve sexual satisfaction. The key is to start slow and work your way up, especially if you already have issues with chronic fatigue, adrenal issues, etc. GO SLOW!
Aphrodisiac
Taking this potent root powder is a sure-fire way to ‘get you in the mood’ – at least it is for me! Maca root has been used as an aphrodisiac for centuries, and although there is no concrete research on this, it’s thought that the minerals within the vegetable could balance sex hormones and improve mood, making arousal much easier to achieve.

Maca contains a high amount of fatty acid which supports our mood and brain function. In fact, doctors who focus on holistic health recommend Omega-3 fatty acids (found in maca root) as a first step toward alleviating symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, and stress.

When it comes to improving fertility, it’s always best, to begin with natural remedies like maca root and other vitamins and herbs. Studies done on animals found that fertility was enhanced when they took this superfood.

Those who suffer from osteoporosis should consider taking a maca root supplement.

This powerful root powder is rich in minerals, essential fatty acids, vitamins and proteins. These elements sustain energy levels and aid in recovery from injury. Numerous studies have evaluated maca root for its role in athletic performance.

This potent root powder is an amazing source of vitamins and minerals, proteins, fibre, vitamin C, copper and iron. It also contains more than 20 amino acids, of which eight essential ones. Maca root powder also contains nutritious phytonutrients and plant compounds and is popular amongst vegans.
There are different colours of maca, most commonly black, red or yellow. Most colours have similar effects although some are more beneficial for certain conditions. Some prefer gelatinized maca powder.
Gradually increase your dose
It is always best to gradually increase your maca dose to see which dose works best for you. Especially for people with Thyroid and Adrenal fatigue, although it does increase your hormonal function, it is best to go really slow, as you may cause an adrenal crash when using too much maca too fast.

Is known to help increase stamina and is a favourite power food by sportive people prior to workouts to get an extra burst of energy.
