69 Natural solutions to regrow hair and rev up your health

Regrow hair and discover 69 natural solutions that help stimulate hair growth and rev up your health. For few years I suffered from thinning, lifeless hair that was falling out at a rapid rate.

Enough was enough – I decided to take drastic action and switched to a completely natural, non-toxic, healthy and holistic haircare and health routine. The results were astounding, and after a lot of hard work, my hair is now healthier and glossier than ever before!

After years of suffering from several health issues, I decided to use the knowledge I’d gained from to influence others and help them improve their hair, health, vitality and all-round wellness.

I don’t want to overwhelm you with all the things I do for my hair and health, but I do want to give you options. You don’t need to follow every tip but see which solutions interest you and decide whether you want to implement them to regrow your hair or rev up your health.

1. Use wooden combs and brushes to protect your hair from damage

Wood works wonders on your locks. It contains no chemicals, and is gentler on the hair than plastic combs and brushes. Plastic combs or metal (god forbid) are harsh and can scrape and bruise the scalp. Combs made of wood are more efficient at distributing your natural oils throughout your hair. As children, we often enjoyed playing with static electricity in our hair. However, the reality is that static electricity can damage your locks. Wooden hair utensils don’t conduct electricity, and so they protect your hair from damage.

Read more about the 15 benefits of using wooden combs and brushes.

Chronic stress is dangerous. It affects how the immune system functions. And long-term stress can increase inflammation and lead to chronic illness.

“What we’re not adapted for, however, is the chronic, unrelenting stress that has become so common in modern life. This type of stress provokes feelings of hopelessness and helplessness – what psychologists call a “defeat response”. And it’s the defeat response that leads to increased fat storage, abdominal obesity, tissue breakdown, suppression of the immune system, and all of the other effects I listed above that directly cause obesity and diabetes.”

58. Balance your sex hormones

The hormonal changes that take place at different stages of our life can contribute to hair loss in women. Whether you have just given birth, reached menopause or are going through some other type of hormonal changes, chances are your hair is falling out. Hormones are invisible yet powerful forces that run through the human body. They affect how you feel, how you function and how you look.

Balancing your sex hormones can be an important aspect to regrow hair.

59. Lower DHT levels can help to regrow hair

When an individual suffers from male pattern baldness, DHT appears to attach itself to their hair follicles. When this happens over an extended period of time, it reduces the size of hair follicles to the point that they stop functioning. This process also stops new hair growth. It is crucial to lowering high DHT levels if you want to regrow hair.

Your diet and the food you eat has an impact on three factors that influence male pattern balding:  insulin, metabolic syndrome and DHT. Some foods that you eat will raise your insulin levels. These reactions then increase the amount of DHT in your system as well. Foods that increase your insulin levels are also likely to lead to metabolic syndrome.

Dr Josh Axe, medical researcher and editor of his health website, has a very helpful video – ‘6 Secrets for Reversing Hair Loss’ in which he says that research shows hair loss is linked to an increase in DHT.

60. Go toxic free on your skin and in your house

We have a habit of covering our skin with all kinds of toxic products. Some people never look at a skin care product label, but I urge you to pay attention to the products you put on your skin.

Everything you apply affects you in some way. The chemicals in soaps, lotions, and deodorants seep into the skin and your cells. This is one of the primary ways that toxic chemicals enter the body. Walk away from any product that uses chemicals or non-natural ingredients.

Think about the number of goods you spray around your home, whether it’s an air freshener, bathroom cleaner or carpet freshener. You can see that the chemicals in this product can quickly build up in your home and your body.

61. Ditch birth control pills; they may cause hair loss

Oral contraceptives are a common trigger for hair loss and other health disorders. Since the FDA approved this drug in 1960, they’ve become one of the most popular forms of birth control used today. If you suffer from hair loss, ditching birth control pills may be an important factor to help your body regrow hair.

62. Get your bite corrected as this can also cause hair loss!

An incorrect bite is when your jaws don’t fit together properly or if they’re too narrow. This can influence the functioning of your brain and your posture. Unfortunately, it may also lead to tension around shoulders, neck and back. This tension can, in turn, result in insufficient circulation in the scalp or brain.

63. Should you be eating grains?

There may be some confusion regarding grains as it can appear to be a healthy option, but in fact, all you’re doing is loading your body up with another form of sugar! I loved eating grains, but after eliminating it from my diet many years ago, I found that I felt much better and less tired and depressed.

As well as playing havoc with your insulin levels, grains can lead your body to become resistant to leptin. Leptin is a master hormone that indicates how much energy you need to the brain, and it controls hunger and feelings of satiety. The fat tissues (adipose) secrete the leptin hormone, so in general, the more overweight a person is, the higher the leptin levels.

Should you be eating grains?

64. Meal prepping – the key to healthy living

For most of us life can get pretty hectic and cooking healthy food is one of those things that is, sadly, often sacrificed for more time. Failing to prep your meals and manage your time effectively will mean that there’s an increased chance of you eating unhealthy food.

Make meal prep your new best friend, and you’ll soon stop reaching for the JustEat app on your phone!

65. Blood circulation, stress and posture can affect the health of your scalp

Decreased blood circulation near the scalp is a leading cause of hair loss, so it’s important to equip yourself with the knowledge on how to avoid this. We know that blood flows through an incredibly complex network of veins and arteries throughout our body, carrying with it essential nutrients and oxygen.

The blood’s journey begins at the heart before moving on to the lungs and then on to the rest of our bodies, including the head and scalp. As it moves throughout our bodies, it connects to smaller capillaries, which helps it to reach other cells in the body. This process is called microcirculation.

Keeping your scalp oxygenated is crucial in helping your body to regrow hair.

66. Apitherapy- the power of bees

I came across apitherapy back in November 2016, when I was researching ways to improve my health. I decided to give it a try as I felt a bit stuck. By December I had my first acupuncture session with live bees, and now, at the date of writing this chapter, I can notice some really remarkable changes in my body. For starters, I have way more energy and can work longer hours without getting tired. My workout sessions have also significantly improved as has my recovery after.

67. Honey is not only good for sleep but also to regrow your hair

Raw honey is said to strengthen hair follicles for healthy growth. Honey is an humectant and it helps regulate and retain moisture in hair.

68. Meaningful connections the key to a healthier life

Modern living has changed the reliance on a community that humans knew for many centuries. Many people today live a very solitary lifestyle, not realising that it can have a devastating effect on their health.

Connecting with other humans, nature and animals (pets) is vital to our health and happiness. Meaningful interaction with others is a factor in regulating your hormones and even neurotransmitters. You will experience less stress, more happiness and a more positive outlook as you increase your connections with others.

“Connections with other people not only affect the quality of our lives, but also our survival!”

Dean Ornish

69. Regrow hair and self-love-care

Finally, to regrow your hair you must be willing to put the time and effort into taking care of yourself. Take time out of your busy schedule to do the things that make YOU happy. Self-love means loving yourself enough to want to take care of your health and hair.

Self-care is so important and, in many ways, it’s a lifestyle decision. Eat and rest well, and incorporate as many healthy, holistic habits into your life as possible. These habits improve your overall health and well-being, which ultimately impacts the health of your hair and health.

I changed the way I eat in 2011 when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, chronic fatigue and adrenal fatigue, conditions where the thyroid is affected. I had no energy, was exhausted, desperate, and my weight had sky-rocketed.

Because of that, I decided to ditch sugars, processed foods, grains, dairy and toxic chemicals. And step-by-step, I introduced a whole-foods-based (first Paleo) and later an AIP (autoimmune protocol) friendly ketogenic approach to food which gave me my life, vitality, happiness and energy back!

Now, through my holistic wellness books and anti-ageing health platform, I want to empower people around the world do the same and regain their health, life, vitality and beauty! Oh yess.. and regrow hair!
